Is Estrogen Therapy Right for Me?

Scott Brandt, M.D. BHRT, Estrogen Replacement, Hormone Therapy for Women

Hormones are chemicals within the body that have a big influence on a person’s wellness. Not only do hormones have a significant physiological effect on the body, but hormonal changes can influence emotional activity as well. Though hormone replacement therapy is a relatively new practice, it can produce serious positive results for women and men under the right conditions. In many instances, women who are over 35 (or who are experiencing menopause) are likely to be good candidates for hormone replacement therapy. That’s because hormone levels decline with age. So, to our question of the day: is estrogen therapy right for me? In this article, we’ll explain how hormone replacement therapy works, the specific role of estrogen in hormone therapy, and if you could benefit from this practice. Check it out here:

What is Estrogen Therapy?

At ThriveMD, we practice a specific type of hormone replacement therapy known as Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). BHRT is designed to correct hormonal imbalances and maintain optimal hormone levels. As opposed to many estrogen therapy treatments, which introduce synthesized hormones that may carry foreign toxins into the body, BHRT is a safe and effective treatment for both men and women. Note here that BHRT is a full hormone replacement therapy. This includes estrogen, as well as other vital hormones including:

  • Progesterone.
  • Testosterone.
  • DHEA.
  • Thyroid.
  • Melatonin.
  • Pregnenolone.
  • Human Growth Hormone (HGH)
  • Pregnenolone

While estrogen is typically associated with women and testosterone with men, the  reality is that both hormones play important roles for people of all genders. Natural estrogen replacement can be administered in several different ways.

  • Capsules.
  • Skin Patches.
  • Topical Creams, Gels, and Sprays.
  • Vaginal Suppositories, Rings, and Creams.
  • Pellets

There are some women who should not be treated with oral estrogen due to co-existing diseases and are safer being treated with topical estrogen.

Benefits of BHRT & Estrogen

The benefits of BHRT vary depending on a number of factors. However, patients who have undergone BHRT have experienced a variety of positive health outcomes such as increased energy levels, greater sexual motivation, and alleviation of symptoms of conditions like menopause. Natural hormone replacement therapy may also lower the  risk of certain serious health issues –– most notably heart disease.

For women, estrogen replacement in particular can be vitally important to maintaining long-term health and wellness. Raising estrogen levels can lead to improvements in skin and hair appearance, sex drive, muscle formation, and even cardiovascular funcitoning. What’s more, increased estrogen can mitigate many issues that women typically experience in middle age like osteoporosis, hot flashes, mood swings, sleep disturbances, and conditions that could contribute to heart disease.

Is Estrogen Therapy Right for Me?

If you experience fatigue, trouble sleeping, yeast infections, weight gain, or any one of a number of issues associated with hormonal imbalance and the aging process,

then estrogen therapy may be a viable solution for you. Many women have found that estrogen therapy specifically and BHRT as a whole successfully addresses a number of health problems often associated with aging.
